Connection, Clarity & Courage: Inside Nova’s 2026 Women’s Leadership Retreat in Italy

What does leadership feel like to you? For many leaders, a surprising amount of the day can be spent responding - to your team, to problems that need solving, to emails, deadlines, decisions, and calendar invites. Leadership asks a lot of your attention, and there is almost always something (or someone!) that needs it.

With so much competing for your attention, it can be hard to create intentional space to step away from the noise and ask yourself bigger picture questions like: What matters now? What needs to change? What am I ready to do about it?

That’s part of what makes a women’s leadership retreat so different from a typical conference, workshop, or professional development event. It creates space to slow down long enough to notice what’s harder to see when life and work are moving nonstop.

At Nova, we see three things come to light when women create that kind of space:

  1. Connection

  2. Clarity

  3. Courage

These three things have a way of building on one another.  Connection creates the conditions for clarity, clarity makes courage more possible, and courage helps turn insight into action.

Connection is More Than Just Networking

Real connection isn’t the same as networking.  And it’s more intentional than just spending time around other people. Meaningful connection requires you to be present in the moment and comes with:

  • Curiosity

  • Honesty

  • An environment where people can genuinely be themselves and not feel like they have to put on a show

The World Health Organization emphasizes the importance of social connection to overall health and well-being, and recent research highlighted by Stanford Lifestyle Medicine also shows just how disconnected many adults feel due to a lack of meaningful connections.

But there is another kind of connection that happens when women with different careers, experiences, responsibilities, and perspectives sit down together and realize they’re wrestling   with some of the same questions.

  • Am I spending my time on what actually matters?

  • Is this still the direction I want to go?

  • What needs to change?

  • What am I avoiding?

These are the types of conversations that build perspective, belonging, challenge, support, and reflection. At our women’s leadership retreat in Italy, connection isn’t something we squeeze into a networking break between sessions; we make it an intentional part of the experience.

Clarity is Creating Space to Hear Yourself Think

Clarity can be surprisingly hard to find when you’re going 100 miles an hour. Stepping away doesn’t magically give you all the answers, but it can create the conditions and enough room to hear yourself think, and that is the important piece to remember!

Clarity doesn’t mean you’ll leave the retreat with the next five years of your life figured out. Clarity can look like:

  • Focusing on what matters most to you right now

  • Acknowledging a decision you’ve been putting off

  • Noticing an area in your life that you need to give more attention to

At Nova, we talk a lot about the role clarity plays in leadership, and the importance of communicating and acting with intention. You can learn more about clarity in one of our past blogs here.

A leadership retreat for women creates a rare opportunity to look at your leadership, career, relationships, priorities, and next chapter from a little farther away. And sometimes that distance gives you exactly the clarity you have been missing.

Courage is Turning Insight Into Action

And then there’s courage. Courage doesn’t have to be quitting a job, building your own business, or making a major life change. Courageous leadership can be:

  • Having a conversation you’ve been avoiding

  • Setting a boundary

  • Asking a hard question

  • Making a decision

  • Changing directions

  • Saying no

  • Saying yes

  • Coming to terms with a situation

  • Being fearless

At Nova, we also think differently about the word fearless, and if you’ve been one of our blog readers for a while, this won’t be the first time you’ve seen this. Being fearless doesn’t mean having no fear at all; it means what it says:  you fear less. You’ll still have uncertainty and nerves, but when something has become important enough that you’re willing to move forward anyway. And that is PROGRESS.

Connection, Clarity, & Courage.

This is the progression we see time and time again:

  • Connection: I don’t have to figure everything out alone.

  • Clarity: I can see what matters more clearly.

  • Courage: I’m willing to do something about it.

Our women’s leadership retreat in Italy creates space for all three. And you don’t have to wait until you are on a retreat to start asking the questions. Start here and now:

  • Where do I need more genuine connection right now?

  • What might become clearer if I created some space?

  • What do I already know that I need the courage to act on?

You may not have all the answers yet. Sometimes creating enough space to ask the right questions is where your next chapter begins. Our retreats are about creating the time, space, and tools to reflect, reconnect, and step into what’s next with clarity and intention.

If that kind of space feels like something you need, we’d love to learn more about you and help you explore Nova retreats and leadership coaching.
